A mercury-wetted relay closely resembles a reed relay. Reed relays are switches ingrained in a solenoid along with in-built contacts inside a still glass-tube that protects it from the external atmosphere. Reed relays toggle along much faster than heavy-duty relays. It also has low lever-current and voltage ratings.
